125 - Little Blue Dude

With the release of the new Space Marine codex and models, of which I plan to buy some just for the hell of it, I had the urge to carry on with the small Crimson Fist force that I had been working on a few months ago.

I got the rest of the Mahreens cleaned up and then set about undercoating them all. A few light coats (and several dropped models) later and the undercoat stage was done.

My plan had been to spray on a coat of dark blue and then drybrush the several lighter shades on to create a good looking force with minimal effort.

So here is my test model:
This is one of the snap fit Marines. He got an airbrush coat of Vallejo Model Air Insignia Blue, followed by a very light airbrush of Vallejo Model Air Blue. I then heavily drybrushed on GW Mordian Blue, followed by a lighter drybrush of GW Enchanted Blue and then an even lighter drybrush of Ice Blue.

The eyes and hand were quickly painted with GW Mechrite Red, but would get a bit more work on the final version. This being a test model I haven't painted all the extra details.

I'm quite happy with how the model has turned out, but I may be a bit more specific with the drybrushing. What do you all think?

Thanks for reading.

I like the approach; when the details are done he'll look great. They are so much easier to paint than iggies arn't they ?

You can line highlight the uppermost parts of the head, kneepads, etc very quickly to define the upper edges and bring it beyond just dry brushed. Once the bolter and the shoulderpad designs are done, plus the base - it'lllook fab! Great start for your marheens!

Echoing Siph - I think some simple line highlights on the most prominent points wouldn't go astray, and maybe a wash to tone down some of the harsher dry brush marks.

With the rest of the details picked out these look like they could come up the goods.

@ Zzzzzz - they are a walk in the park compared to the massed Iggies!

@ Siph_Horridus - I may give them a gentle line highlight with Ice Blue to make the edges really show. Just happy they don't look like Ultramahreens. I've got some bases from Anvil Industry that will be used for them as well.

@ Frothing Muppet - would it be better to use Asurmen Blue wash or the Guilliman Blue glaze do you reckon? Some of the drybrush marks are a bit strong.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Looks good - not sure whether it's deliberate or a trick of the light but I like the way the highlighting is selective, weighted onto one side.
