Sleep Patterns

For the past week I've been matching my fiancee's sleep pattern - which basically means that I've been waking up at about 7.30pm and going to sleep at around 9.00am. Strange isn't it.

Anyway, thats not the main reason for this post. One of the reasons is to inform everyone that there will be some more pictures appearing on here of a few tanks that I've managed to finish (apart from varnishing (at time of posting)). I've completed my Basilisk B23, the Leman Russ Conqueror/MBT command tank (as seen in "Let there be pictures! Part Three") for my Emperor's Fist company, a Demolisher and another Leman Russ MBT. Stay tuned for those new pics.

The other reason is a quick update on what I'm currently working on. Now that I have seen the pictures of the sprues for the new Command Squads I'm glad that I've decided that I will wait for them to be released. Check out the post on "Bell of Lost Souls" and prepare to be impressed if your a Guard player. And so I'm continuing my work on some infantry squads, so again please be patient for some shots of these guys.

The final thing I'm on at the moment is the sponson weapons for the remaining six Leman Russ' for my Emperor's Fist tank company. Basically I've removed all of the remaining sponsons from the sprues and put them together. And here is a picture of the guns after I'd done this.

The weapons were then cleaned up to get rid of any lines/gaps etc. Once all of this done I put a bit of blu tack on the back of the sponson mounting and stood the guns up on a bit of card. Then I gave them all a nice coat of Chaos Black spray. Once this had dried during the day (or overnight depending on if your awake the same time I am). Obviously there were some parts that needed touching up, so out came the crappy starter brush and these bits were painted with Chaos Black. Again this was left to dry and then progress was actually made. First I had to mix up my Catachan Green paint as it had separated (if anyone has any tips on how to do/prevent this please help). But I ended up making it a bit too thin, so had to apply three coats onto the sponsons. Anyway it looks good now and all I have to do is the more tricky sections. Another picture to show this.

I probably won't do anymore to them tonight but I'll be doing the metallic parts next - so barrel, under barrel and symbols. Thanks for reading everyone.

Baneblade Super Heavy Tank - Vengeance

I think that the title for this post says it all.

I have finally finished my Baneblade that has been collecting dust for the past couple of months. I can't believe that I hadn't managed to finish it. So without further ado here is "Vengeance":

This is the name plate on the right hand side of the tank just under the turret. "Vengeance" is a transfer from the FW Imperial Guard Vehicle sheet. Although a little bleached in this picture, the name plate is edged in Shining Gold with the inside of the plate in Bleached Bone. A layer of gloss varnish has been added to help protect the transfer. Also in this picture the dirtying up of the tank can be seen (sort of). Basically I drybrushed the entire tank with Catachan Green. It gave the model an older look without going over the top.

Here we have a view of the front of "Vengeance" - looking very dusty. I used Orkhide Shade for the main body of the tank. I also chose not to use a camo scheme - I don't think camo is going to work on something this big. The heavy bolters, lascannons and autocannon were painted with Goblin Green, keeping with the colour scheme of the rest of my force. The targeting lenses were done with a coat of Mechrite Red, with a light overlay of Red Gore. A small highlight of Skull white was then placed in the corner. The viewing slits were done with a similar technique. This time Enchanted Blue was used, with a highlight of Ice Blue and Skull White. The searchlight is Iyanden Darksun. All of these "glass" areas were protected with a gloss varnish - after the entire model was protected with a matt varnish. The metal areas were either Boltgun Metal straight onto the surface or drybrushed on. The "For The Emperor!" transfer is again from the FW sheet.

The left hand side of the tank. The marking at the front of the tank was done using Mordian Blue with an Enchanted blue highlight. The two transfers on the turret are from the Baneblade sheet. The tracks were drybrushed first with Boltgun Metal and then a light drybrush of Mithril Silver.

The right hand side of the Super Heavy. Again the two transfers on the turret are from the Baneblade sheet. The name plate can also be seen a bit better on this side - as can the autocannon. This side shows that the Catachan Green drybrush helps to stop the tank looking uniform - the tank marking is brighter than on the other side of the tank.

Here's the view of the rear of the tank. The Tech shrine was done using Skull White for the symbol, Brazen Brass for the detail. Bleached Bone was used for the purity seals with a highlight of Rotting Flesh. Red gore was also used. Again metal areas were either painted with Boltgun Metal directly or drybrushed.

And finally we have a picture of the commander. Again this picture is a little bleached. I'll start from the top for this guy. His hair is Graveyard Earth with a Snakebite Leather highlight. His headset is Chaos Black with Codex Grey highlight and Boltgun Metal drybrush. The flesh is Tallarn Flesh with an Elf Flesh highlight. The bionic eye is Red Gore. The laspistol is Goblin Green with a Camo Green highlight and Mithril Silver for the barrel. The uniform is Snakebite Leather. His badge and honours were picked out with several different colours. The entire commander was given a wash of Devlan Mud.

And there you have it. One finaly completed Baneblade. Ready to deliver 11 barrels of righteous death to the Emperor's foes.

Progress

As the rumours of whats coming out for the Guard continue to circulate, so I near final final completion of some infantry squads.

Both squads for Platoon 7 and Platoon 9 (4 squads in total) are just awaiting varnishing. This is currently not possible with the freezing weather - damn! I have however managed to get some quick pics of a sergeant and vox-trooper - using my camera phone - hence the poor quality. These squads are the first ones I have done using a Camo Green highlight on the Goblin Green pieces and have also used a Devlan Mud wash all over the model.

I will be getting my fiancee to take some photos of the complete squads so stay tuned.
Also I will be renumbering the squads - Squad 712 is now Squad 222, Squad 714 is to become 242, 913 becomes 333 and 914 becomes 343.

Apology

As the title suggests, it's time for an apology. To those of you that read my blog, I apologise that I have not posted a substantial item for a while now. This is through me just being a bit lazy and also that I've been saving the pennies to get some new paints.

However, I truly hope that within the next week I will be uploading some pictures of the Command Squads before they are painted. I also hope that with the completion of the Command Squads I will be able to get some full pictures up of both Platoons 7 and 9 - or whatever I decide to renumber them to.

The only things I have added to the blog are lists of recently completed projects and current projects. Bear in mind though that my current projects list is much longer than the few items currently on it - I've just tried to restrict it to things I've worked on in the past 2-3 months.

So please keep looking and I hope to read your comments when I've put something meaningful on here. Thanks for reading.

N.B. Soon after posting this update, I have read on several websites that one of the possible new releases for the Imperial Guard in the not too distant future may be a new plastic Command Squad for the Cadians. I know I may be being premature, but because of this news my Commands Squads have been put on hold and I will instead be focusing my efforts on completing more infantry squads and heavy weapons teams. Guess What I Found?

Whilst being bored beyond all comprehension today (and also having seen some cool poems/rhymes on both Col. Gravis' and Admiral Drax' blogs) I had a look through some old files on my PC and came across a piece of my GCSE English coursework.

This piece of coursework is a short story - or at least was meant to be a short story. It is in fact a 10 page story entitled "The Tenth Battle Honour". Basically it is about an Imperial planet invaded by Orks. The story focuses on a defense of a town by several Imperial Guard regiments.

I have spent some time trying to figure out how to add the Word file onto my blog so that anyone that is interested can just download it - however that has failed. Therefore if anyone is interested in reading it please e-mail me at courtneyhollyoake@hotmail.com and I'll send the file across. Also if anyone knows how to add Word files to a blog please feel free to enlighten me.

Let there be pictures! Part Three

Thanks to all of you who have managed to trudge through "Part One" and "Part Two ". Now if you haven't died of exhaustion you can take a look at the current armour attached to the Cadian 127th Regiment.

Ok so the first tank is my company command tank for the Emperor's Fist tank company. The tank is 601 Imperator Furor (Emperor's Fury) This is the first tank of the EFTC to come close to completion. I am trying to decide on locations for the transfers, if I should add company markings and also I'm experimenting on my weathering techniques on an old Chimera chassis so I can get them close to right on this beauty. When I was thinking about this tank, I wanted to make sure that it stood out as a command tank, hence all the comms equipment. The equipment on the back of the turret is from FW and the stuff on the side is from the Apocalypse command sprue.

I also wanted to make use of the Hellhammer cannon from my Baneblade kit, so with a bit of cutting and filing the Hellhammer was fitted onto the turret and so the Leman Russ becomes a Conqueror variant. Again helping to make the tank stand out is the beasty FW mine plough. This thing was a right pain trying to put together and caused some frustration but the overall result is very pleasing.

I prefer the idea of having my tanks carrying all the gear they might need for a prolonged campaign - so the backpacks, boxes and fuel cans were a must. Again there is a smattering of FW stuff here and there - I also couldn't help but decide to put a Hunter-Killer Missile on each tank. The last piece of FW kit on the model is the tank commander. Unfortunately midway through painting his right arm, I somehow managed to drop a large and heavy item (wooden box) on the very edge of the gun - hence the demented plasma pistol. I am still please with how good this guys looks though.

On my old tanks I had gone with a Dark Angels Green main coat and then camo in Goblin Green, but having used the Orkhide Shade foundation paint to do my Baneblade, I thought I would continue to use that paint for the rest of my armour. I can't describe how much I love using the foundation paints and the finish is always great. Camo patterns this time were done using Knarloc Green. Overall I think the effect is quite good - but I'm trying to decide what style of camo to use on the rest of the tanks - maybe doing one squadron in one style and the others in a different one.

The next tank is Command Tank 611 Auctorita (Power). This tank hasn't yet got all the extra gear loaded up onto it but is coming along well. My next decision is whether I want to use another FW tank commander or one from the plastic sprues. I don't know if having the FW stuff scattered throughout the whole tank company is a good idea or if it will look to sparse.

Next up is Command Tank 621 Veneratio (Honour). Again not all the gear is loaded on and painting hasn't quite started yet.

Command Tank 631 Glorificus Letum (Glorious Death) has been put together and thats about it. Now extra gear yet and no idea on what damage to put all over it. That currently concludes the EFTC. 4 made, 6 to go :S.

Here we have one of my oldest models, which has been around since I had my Praetorian force. This tank is a quick conversion, with 2 Leman Russ barrels stuck together to turn it into a Vanquisher. Still looks ok, but is in need of an improved paint job and some updating - gotta love the old smoke launchers. I've actually managed to find a picture of my Praetorian command squad and this tank when it was a member of the Praetorian regiment.

And finally to conclude this armour section, we have my FW Artemia pattern Hellhound, which is very dusty. I decided to get this tank as I was missing a Hellhound from my army list, but didn't want to go for the relatively plain model that I had seen around the GW stores i frequented (GW Bluewater, GW Bromley & GW Thurrock). This is yet another example of me being unable to finish a project. I need to glue on the hull mounted weapon and some tracks, put on some transfers and that is it done. Maybe I'll get it done soon.

I'm hoping that soon I will be able to get some pictures on of my Baneblade, Demolisher, Basilisk, other Leman Russ and 2 Sentinels. But that'll probably be after Christmas. Anyway thanks for reading and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.

Let there be pictures! Part One

Finally, after a month and a half, I have managed to get off my arse and take some pictures of the majority of my army. Please bear in mind when you look at these pics that the models and still in varying levels of completion - some may only need to be varnished whereas others obviously haven't even been undercoated yet.

The pictures will be in some sort of order - so HQ to Heavy Support etc. I'll try to explain what's left to do for each picture but I apologise beforehand if I get some things wrong or leave them out all together :).

Ok then first pictures. If you've looked at my blog before you'll recognise this guy from my "We have a picture" blog. He is of course my Regimental Standard Bearer from my Command Squad. This little fella is almost complete, he just needs transfers on each shoulder pad and some highlighting on the flesh. I also need to change the Regiment number at the top of the standard as it currently reads C X L I I I which is 143 - the original Regiment number. This will be changed to C X X V I I (127) so I only have to change 2 of the numerals making my life so much easier. He also just needs a bit more done to the base, I'm going to add a bit of static grass to it.

Next picture. One Lieutenant for a Command Squad, probably for Platoon 7. Like a lot of my models I wanted this guy to look like he was in a war/battle, so wounds and blood were a must. The only problem is, I can't put the Command Squad transfer on his shoulder because of the wounds - oh well. The transfer on the right shoulder is all that is left to be done on this guy. Although looking at it I think I need to do something with his mouth as my painting skill obviously doesn't quite cut it.

Another Lieutenant and one of the only conversions you'll find in my army. As my modelling skills aren't that great I try and avoid complicated and skillful conversions. Instead a weapon or head swap is the most I'll go for. With this guy I wanted something other than the metal models from GW, so using a plastic Cadian model and the power claw arm from the Space Marine Commander set I went about filing and cutting the shoulder so that it would fit snugly. Overall I'm quite impressed with it as the shoulder almost matches the Cadian pads. This Lieutenant will probably be for Platoon 9. Once again this guy needs a transfer or two and the base finishing off.

Oh look more Lieutenants. Not a lot has to be said about these guys. Obviously nothing has been done to them, I got them about a month ago from eBay for £6 for all 3 - bargain. I may use them as squad leaders or do a weapon swap and keep them in a Command Squad - bolt pistol and power sword. I have got another Lieutenant in my army case but I couldn't be bothered to take a pic of him along with some other models.

Preachers. Decided to add some preachers to my army just for a bit more flavour. So I have these guys and the beginning of painting and one with an Eviscerator not even undercoated.

Commissars - don't you just love 'em. I know there are a few Guard players out there that don't really like having Commissars in their army but I have to admit I do. There's just something about the undeniable faith in the Emperor that makes these stalwart advisors a bonus to the battlefield - plus having your heroic senior officer shot for cowardice is always fun. Both of the Commissars need their base completing and a dark grey wash on their cloaks just to break up the dullness a bit. As I like Commissars so much, I have 2 of the new style models waiting to be undercoatd and the current Yarrick model. I'm also hoping to get the Krieg FW Commissars as they look amazing.

Onwards. Platoon 7 - Squads 721 and 741. First of all, I have messed up all of my poorly hand painted squad numbers - and by all I mean on all four infantry squads (2 for Platoon 7 and 2 for Platoon 9). Currently the squad numbers read 712 and 714 which when I checked the Guard Codex is wrong. Therefore I will be repainting the shoulder pads and painting on the correct numbers.

The first 4 pictures are of Squad 721 and the second 5 pictures are of Squad 741. Other than the need to repaint squad numbers, like a lot of the rest of my army these models are almost complete. Only a few odd bits, like touching up the paint, and a wash over the flesh need to be done. As you can hopefully see, all of the models have equipment on their waists. I've done this for two reasons. Firstly, as troops in combat they would be carrying ammunition etc and secondly to cover up any gaps etc from my inability to put models together properly.

Ok, I'm going to have to leave this post at that point for the moment as I have things to do, but do not panic, I will try and get another post done tonight or tomorrow with the rest of the current pictures. We have a picture!

Whilst routing around looking for some other pictures I stumbled across some very old pictures of the regiment. Now these pics pretty much show everything that I have apart from the mass of Leman Russ', heavy weapons teams and my Baneblade to name a few.

Ok so in the picture we have:
at the front (from L to R) - meltagun, junior officer, commissar, junior officer, meltagun, vindicare assassin, master vox, senior officer, regimental standard, meltagun, medic, commissar, plasmagun, junior officer, plasmagun, junior officer medic.

obviously in the middle the heavy weapons and infantry speak for themselves - ignore the headless zombie squad.

A close view of part of the Command squad - the regimental standard is probably my best painted model now. Skin etc has been improved.

I hope that this gives everyone some idea of the size of the unfinished part of my army let alone the huge amount that requires building. I have decided to put the tank company on hold until I can get hold of a spray gun so I can quickly paint them up.
